Kay Whitt's new book is just as charming and delightful as she is!
Originally posted at Sew Serendipity Blog.
Kay's book, and several new patterns, debuted at the recent Spring Quilt Market in Minneapolis.
Most of you probably know that I pretty much swore off sewing for myself, focusing instead on sewing for babies and children. Their lumps and bumps are much more sweet, and less infuriating, to try and cover or camoflauge!
Kay's book just might make me revisit that decision!
I love the Ruffled Skirt! Love may not even be strong enough!
Kay selected a large scale floral, a bold geometric and a solid silk. The attention to detail is simply amazing!
Did I mention that I love this?
Then there is the Silk and Linen Jacket. Not only does it make a great pairing with the previously mentioned Ruffle Skirt, but I can also see it paired with jeans and a t-shirt. Just the thing to make you feel like a girl!
Feminine and flirty and fabulous!
Kay saved the best for last, in my humble opinon! The very last, but definitely not the least, of the eighteen projects is the Classic Tailored Jacket.
This knee-length jacket has a retro feel, and tailored detailing of double topstitching and lots of buttons on the collar, sleeves and down the front!
The first portion of the book deals with measuring and adjusting the fit, tools of the trade, and sewing techniques. Notice that wonderful spiral binding that allows the book to rest flat for hands free use? Wonderful!
Construction for each project is explained with detailed illustrations and helpful hints!
The pattern pieces are all stored in a handy envelope at the back of the book.
Thank you, Kay, for inspiring us to create

Jan,
ReplyDeleteThat does look like a great book. I know of several friends who could wear the designs you showed. You, of course, are just one of them.
Prayers continue for you sweet friend.
What a wonderful book. I am not sure I would sew for myself, but would love to sew for my grown daughter. She has been left out since she gifted me with a granddaughter.
ReplyDeletePrayers continue for you.

ReplyDeleteI too thought this book might inspire me to sew for myself!!
Jan,
ReplyDeleteit is nice to read the post, even if you wrote before your surgery.
I hope it went well and that you are recovering nicely. After reading your previous post, I talked to my mom about it as she has the same disease that you have, she will see her eyes doctor soon!
The book seems interesting, I like the skirt!
I just looked at this book at Barnes and Nobles yesterday. It has soooo many wonderful clothes in it that I would love to make. I would LOVE to have this book!!!!
ReplyDeleteThis book looks fabulous! I love the way she combines fabrics!
ReplyDeleteWin it or not, I need this book......add me to the list!
ReplyDeletePraying for you, sweetie!
The pictures take home sewing to a beautiful level! Can't wait to see it - hope to win it! Many blessings for you during your surgeries. Janet jchlangley@gmail.com

ReplyDeleteHi Jan! I love this beautiful book. I'm especially in love with the flirty, ruffle skirt and girly jacket. So wonderful! I'd love to be entered for a chance to win the book.
ReplyDeleteHope your eye surgery is going well, my friend.

What a girly set of patterns! I'm definitely tempted.
ReplyDeletePraying,

Nice patterns. I, too, have kind of sworn off sewing for myself. My bumps and lumps get more unruly every year. I'm on a quest this year to find the perfect pattern for capris for ME. LOL. I hope your surgery went well and that your recovery is coming along nicely. Still praying that all is well.:)
ReplyDeleteI want this book so much. I have not had any chance too look at it in person, just online. But it looks wonderful!
ReplyDeleteAnd I am still praying for you as your eyes heal from surgery. Rest and get well.
I've had you on my mind & in my ♥ & prayers for days now. Looking forward to lots of new postings from you once your eyes have recovered.
ReplyDeletein the meantime, this is a wonderful pre-scheduled surprise! That skirt & jacket combination is just awesome...such luscious details. No wonder an heirloom sewista would fall in love with it. Me too!
Hugs & prayer for rapid healing,
fondly,
Rett
Hope your doing well.
ReplyDeleteEverything I've read about this book is great.
Would love a copy.
I have also sworn off sewing for myself, but there are some beautiful things in this book I would love to try.
ReplyDeleteI've been following your struggle with your eyesight and hope this surgery helps--have a speedy recovery!
Continued prayers for you, dear Jan :)
ReplyDeletePlease enter my name, thanks.
Loving all the inspiration in this book! May be time for a new skirt for me too!
ReplyDeleteI will continue to keep you in my prayers.
Hi Jan, I hope this comment finds you recovering nicely. I agree with you I don't sew for me anymore its just not as much fun as sewing for grands and other lovely children. Hope to hear soon that you are doing well.
ReplyDeletePat
What a great give away! Prayers are going up for you.
ReplyDeleteThat's just the kind of book I need. After trying on and rejecting 8 different garments while shopping this week, I am beginning to think that sewing for myself may be the only answer to getting a decent fit. (I have been thinking of you constantly, Jan, and here I check your blog for news only to find that you are, as usual, busy thinking of others!)trativer
ReplyDeleteI don't know why my captcha word ended up in my post, lol!
ReplyDeleteOh, that looks fun!
ReplyDeleteStacey
This has been on my wish list for some time now. Thank you for the opportunity!
ReplyDeleteWhat a darling book! The first garment I sewed as a newlywed was a gathered skirt for myself. In the years since I have developed more sewing techniques and figure flaws, so I haven't sewn for myself in years. But this book makes me revisit the idea.
ReplyDeleteYou have been in my prayers, and I hope you are enjoying a pain-free and restful recovery.
What a great review - I would love this book! Thank you for the offer.

ReplyDeleteHer patterns are so great ao I can only imagine that her book will be a great success as well!
ReplyDeleteKaren
Love Kay... she is as cute as she is creative. Her husband is a doll as well. Can talk patterns with the best of them. I think we need to start sewing her patterns... no kids to sew for here and most of these would fit Paige. Hugs and a fresh bag of peas... :)
ReplyDeleteWow! Thanks for the chance to win! I read about Kay's book the other day and have it on my (really long) book wishlist!
ReplyDeleteI have been checking out this book for a while, I would love to win this book!
ReplyDeleteAllison
