I love my 1/4" foot!
I especially love that the single needle hole provides more stability when stitching with our fine heirloom fabrics.
So many our favorite heirloom patterns use 1/4" seam allowances. It is a cinch with this foot to accurately stitch each and every seam!
It is also easy peasy to make those teeny tiny 1/8" French seams, by guiding the seam along the inner side of the foot.
The marked guidelines on the toe of the foot make judging pivot points a breeze, as well!
My foot is made by Husqvarna Viking, and fits my Designer 1.
My second favorite foot is probably the Edge Joining Foot.
Do you have a favorite sewing foot?
I am with you on this foot Jan, I use it more than any other foot!!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite too, in conjunction with the single hole throad plate it makes sewing fine batiste and lace a snap
ReplyDeleteThat should read "throat" plate LOL
ReplyDeleteI don't know if my Janome has a 1/4" foot available but I will look. But my favorite foot is either my 6mm narrow rolled hem foot and my stitch-in-the-ditch foot is a close runner up. I use them constantly.

ReplyDeleteI TOTALLY agree with you. The lace joining foot & my 1/4" foot are about all I sew with on my HUSQVARNA #1+. The 1/4" foot I have that has the guard on the right side has an open center. This allows me to move the needle to the far left and do a 3/8" seam allowance and guide it right along the fabric edge, as well as move needle to far right and do a 1/8" seam for that narrow french seam on preemie outfits guideing fabric along the guard. Only other foot I use is a buttonhole foot with a metal tongue and I use it for mini piping. LOVE sewing on my HUSQVARNA #1+. Won't turn it in to upgrade!!! Bought a Babylock Ellure + to use for embroidery now.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite foot is my quarter inch foot, also along with the straight stitch throat plate. Couldn't sew without them!
ReplyDeleteI also probably use my 1/4" foot more than anything else, since I also quilt, and quilts are made with 1/4" seam allowances as well. But now I'm wondering if Bernina makes a lace joining foot, because that sounds nice to use as well!
ReplyDeleteThanks for this post Jan - it reminded me to use this foot today as I sewed on very fine dotted swiss.
